Jim Plaxco Bio

Who am I? I am both a digital artist and photographer. I am also a programmer who has created a variety of digital painting and image processing programs.

As a photographer my primary areas of photographic interest are in image abstraction and image manipulation. Favorite traditional subjects are landscapes, cityscapes, technology, and the natural world.

I have until recently avoided using my photography for commercial purposes with the only exceptions being when using my photographs as illustration for magazine articles I’ve written. Rather, I’ve focused on using my photography to support my digital art activities. In fact there is something of a symbiotic relationship between my art and photography since the two have much in common compositionally and aesthetically.

As a digital artist I specialize in abstract art, algorithmic art, alternative portraiture, astronomical art, and space art. I also have my liquid landscapes and gestural algorithmics creations with both making use of computer graphics painting software of my own design. To learn more about my digital art, please visit my Artsnova Digital Art Gallery.

I confess to having a diversity of artistic and photographic interests and do not subscribe to the proposition that an artist/photographer should confine themselves to just one subject or just one style. Rather I subscribe to T.S. Eliot’s idea that "No generation is interested in art in quite the same way as any other; each generation, like each individual, brings to the contemplation of art its own categories of appreciation, makes its own demands upon art, and has its own uses for art." For my part this means an exploration of the use of digital technologies to create new forms of imagery. With such a wonderfully versatile tool at our disposal, why would anyone limit their exploration of that tool’s full potential because of rules of thumb of previous generations?

I hope that you find my photographs to be entertaining, enlightening, and educational.

While not heavily active on social networks, I do maintain a presence on a number of platforms. You can learn more on my Social Networking page..
